
Our Story
I decided I was going to be an accountant in my high school senior seminar class in Southern Colorado. I was always curious about what made businesses work and thought accounting would do just that. I enrolled in the business program at Colorado State University and a few years later graduated with a bachelors degree in accounting and corporate finance. Shortly thereafter, I began my career as the Director of Accounting for a custom home builder on Kauai, HI. Since then, I’ve found my way back to Colorado and over the past decade managed the books for contractors, property managers, vacation rentals, plumbers, electricians and restaurants. I also helped underwrite several real estate development projects along the way. Business school taught me how to understand financial statements but it didn't really teach me about business. The owners I worked with over the years taught me that. They were the ones that turned an idea into a business and understood customer service, how to solve problems and how to treat employees. Without them, there would be no numbers to account for. That being said, many business owners knew how to start and run their businesses, but spent all their time and energy doing just that - and the financials took a back seat. So, in 2024 I decided to create Blue Spruce Bookkeeping to help the business owners that know how to run their business but don’t have the time or desire to get things on paper. It can be expensive to hire full-time accounting staff, so the goal for us at Blue Spruce Bookkeeping is to provide small businesses and entrepreneurs a more cost-effective option to consider when deciding how to manage their books without compromising on quality.
